Room to improve for Laos in global corruption index
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – Laos scored 29 points and maintained the same position as it did in 2017 in Transparency International’s 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which was released on Tuesday.
Scores on the index range from 0 to 100 where 0 represents extremely corrupt and 100 is very clean.
Laos’ score of 29 points was lower than most other Asean countries. From highest to lowest, Singapore was deemed very clean with a score of 85. Brunei Darussalam got 63, Malaysia 47, Indonesia 38, and the Philippines’ 36. Thailand also achieved a score of 36 while Vietnam got 33 and Myanmar was ranked the same as Laos. Cambodia achieved a score of 20.
