Officials wipe out opium poppy crops in Luang Namtha, Xieng Khuang
LUANG NAMTHA, Laos (Vientiane Times/ANN) – Luang Namtha authorities recently destroyed 17 hectares of opium poppies growing in eight villages of Long district in the far northern province.
Deputy Head of the district Public Security Office, Major Sinnakone Khounvongphom, told Vientiane Times on Friday that district police and the province’s Drug Inspection and Supervision Department teamed up to destroy 17 hectares of opium poppies in the villages of Maekhong, Samsop, Chakhamlee, Phangua, Aiseng, Soppankao, Chakhamtan and Soppanmai.
