Bokeo border patrol seizes over 2.5 million amphetamine pills
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – Border patrol soldiers in Bokeo province on Wednesday seized over 2.5 million amphetamine pills being transported by two longboats across the Mekong River in Huayxai district, after the boatmen fled on foot when they were apprehended.
A police officer in charge of drug control in Bokeo province told Vientiane Times yesterday that during a routine patrol along the Mekong, soldiers saw suspicious boats. When they called out, the boats stopped by the riverbank and the two boatmen ran off.
Soldiers searched the boats and found 2,560,000 amphetamine pills weighing 290kg, which they took to the drug control and supervision office in Bokeo province.
